As you know, according to a certain Mr. F. Gump, “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you might find.” That’s fine in life and, even though what you might find isn’t always what you would like, life would be pretty dull if everything was mapped out for you to see in advance.
In business however, you want the dull, mapped out path and for your business to be less like a box of chocolates and more like a stick of Blackpool rock.
A business that is like the chocolates spends most of its time reacting to the unexpected which, like strawberry soft centres, can be very unpleasant. This is both unproductive an exhausting.
Make your company more like a stick of rock; solid, strong, integrated and with no surprises. And, like the lettering inside the rock, make sure your business has a coherent strategy plan that runs through every aspect of it.
